The 4 AI Archetypes
As companies become AI-first, work itself is being redefined. We propose four archetypes that help teams discuss their future roles and career paths in an AI-integrated world.
The shift to becoming AI-first – seen at companies like Duolingo and Shopify – means we’re rethinking how work is done. It’s not just automation; it’s creating new, essential human roles!
We want to offer 4 key archetypes for success in an AI-integrated world, helping teams discuss their future roles and career paths:
The Visionary Leader / Strategist: Provides the vision to guide and set direction. Like an airline captain, they decide where to go and when to step in and take over from autonomous systems. They assign the initial goal with context.
The System Architect / Complexity Manager: Crucial for understanding how systems work, breaking things down, and getting to the root cause in increasingly complex environments.
The AI-Enhanced Practitioner / Craftsperson: Uses AI as a skilful enhancement, becoming far better and achieving huge gains in productivity and speed. They focus on creative work and real problems, using AI as a real copilot for complex tasks.
The AI Orchestrator / Team Manager: Manages AI as a standalone teammate, able to assign a goal with context and knowing when to step in and take over.
Did we miss one? Is your team evolving for the future of work?
